In the Footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci
In the Footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was a true Renaissance polymath whose contributions spanned art, science, engineering, and anatomy. As one of the most influential artists in history, his masterpieces like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper revolutionized the art world. Beyond painting, Leonardo's notebooks are filled with sketches and ideas for inventions, ranging from flying machines to military devices, showcasing his visionary thinking. His study of human anatomy, engineering, and the natural world laid the groundwork for numerous scientific advancements. Leonardo's blend of artistic creativity and scientific curiosity continues to inspire and influence diverse fields to this day.
We spent a day in Amboise having a look into a part of his life and art feeling the inspiration from spirit of Leonardo.

“Art is the queen of all sciences, communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world.” - Leonardo de Vinci
In the final years of his life, Leonardo da Vinci lived in the French town of Amboise, where he was invited by King Francis I in 1516. There, he spent his time under the king's patronage, continuing his studies in anatomy, engineering, and art. Though he did not produce major new paintings during this period, he worked on sketches and designs, many of which explored the concepts of fluid dynamics, mechanics, and architecture. His time in Amboise also marked a phase of reflection, as he looked back on his lifetime of innovation. Leonardo's influence remained strong during this period, and he is said to have shared his vast knowledge with his students and the royal court, helping to bridge the Renaissance cultures of Italy and France.
We were happy to visit Chateau du Clos Luce and explore the grounds, have a read in the bookstore, and enjoy coffee and crepes in center of town.
