The Allure of Botanicals

July 22 – 26, 2024 | Santa Fe Workshops
ON LOCATION - Santa Fe, NM

  • What is the allure to the world of botanicals? Is it their tantalizing palette of color? Is it the mystery of the shapes intertwining together to make worlds within? Is it the patterns or textures? How can we see florals for what they are and for what they could be? In this new in-person workshop in magical Santa Fe, we are exploring the visual beauty of florals to create art that echos the voices that resonate and celebrate in nature.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the artist Leanne Trivett S., to explore photographing botanicals and to go further through experimentation to create unique artwork. By trying new camera techniques, playing with the abstract, exploring ICM and multiple exposures, and working in personal still life and journaling, we begin to recreate the essence of what these subjects unveil to us. We use our five senses and ideas of color to explore emotion and dramatic story. Our time together is spent making photographs, viewing creative and inspiring art in presentations, and working individually and together in small groups on assignments. Inspiration comes to the surface while visiting local gardens and parks as well as galleries and museums, in true Santa Fe Style.

Leanne cultivates a safe and supportive classroom environment for participants to experiment and try new things. She also provides her style of gentle coaching to encourage individual artistic voices to be heard. Join us to explore a new way to look at florals and find the inspiration to turn your photographs into living, breathing art.

This is an incredible meeting of creative minds to explore everything botanical. This brand-new workshop welcomes everyone, including alumni that have taken classes with Leanne before. You will not want to miss this fascinating opportunity and journey to the rarefied air of Santa Fe and further explore the allure of botanicals.

  • On Location - Santa Fe
    9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Mountain Time)

This upcoming summer workshop season will be unlike any other at Santa Fe Workshops. Our base of operations will be in the vibrant Railyard Art’s District at the New Mexico School for the Arts. While our campus of 33 years is being renovated, we are excited to be on their campus in the heart of Santa Fe’s arts scene. The possibilities and opportunities of a new location in town and the modern facilities at NMSA are endless.

The Railyard Arts district is now the hub of contemporary life in Santa Fe, home to a vibrant mix of galleries, museums, and arts organizations including SITE Santa Fe, El Museo Cultural, and the just opening New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary. Also part of this neighborhood are the Farmer’s Market, Railyard Park, International Folk Art Market, New Mexico Railrunner Express, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, shops, hotels, community gatherings, concerts, and events.

Portraits of Self:
The Untold Story of You

November 8 – December 13, 2023 | Santa Fe Workshops

  • The best stories reveal something about the storyteller, either directly or indirectly. Your personal narrative lives in every one of your images, and every photograph you make reveals something about you.

In this new online workshop, Leanne Trivett S. presents a safe and supportive environment that promotes inspiration and creativity. By trying new approaches, practicing with personal objects, working with still life, and experimenting with faceless portraits, participants uncover the passion and cultivate the vulnerability to tell their stories.

Class time features lectures about artists, reviews of participant work, and individual creativity coaching. Through assignments and group sharing, Leanne offers feedback and guides participants as we photograph what is important to us and test the tools and techniques that bring forward our narrative.

Photographers of all levels are welcome. Only a small amount of technical proficiency is required: experience in digital workflow, confidence operating your camera of choice, and ability to select, download, and submit images. An open mind is a bonus!

As we emerge from behind the camera and take a journey towards magic and mystery, we see soul in each image and breathe life into each self-portrait. Join Leanne and uncover the specific ways that you exist in every photograph you take.

Student Reviews

One Of The Best Photography Workshops

The “Theatre of Botanicals" was one of the best photography workshops I have ever taken. It inspired me to see beyond the boundaries of my own photographic journey by incorporating emotional objects into my artwork and seeing my photographs in a completely new light. In addition to being an enthusiastic and accomplished photographer, Leanne is a gifted instructor who brought a wealth of resources to each class.

Evoke Emotion and Originality in Photography

I loved Leanne’s passion for creative artistry and her ability to inspire us to embrace new ways to evoke emotion and originality in our photography. Her learning environment and teaching style encouraged exploration, creativity and fun! I look forward to attending many more of Leanne’s workshops.

Diane Michaud Lowry, Photographer

Eloquent and Lyrical Quality

Leanne is a kindred spirit. Her photography is art. A canvas which reflects her heart and soul through color and composition, layers and veils. Her musical theater background enhances her artistic expression by bringing an eloquent and lyrical quality to her work. As both a classmate and a student of Leanne’s, we share a passion for creative photography and abstract botanicals. I have been inspired by Leanne’s organic experimentation in the visual arts, by her approach to creating with a bold yet humble confidence, most importantly, by her warmth, kindness, and optimism. Leanne is a welcome bright light in the visual art world.
