The Bull and Beggar - My Favorite Restaurant in Asheville, NC
We, as a culture, love a comeback story. This past October I was heartbroken that our favorite Asheville restaurant was in the flood zone of Hurricane Helene. This is a place where we had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding; we entertained out-of-town friends with local veggies and seafood towers; and where we dined quite frequently. Birthdays, Memories, and Breaking Bread here has been a part of our story for many years. We love the owner Drew and the restaurant, and felt the shock of its loss.
But as we know, many Asheville business owners have an uncanny resilience. And the Bull and Beggar is right there with them. With a lot of clean up from the river that came right up into the space, a little remodeling with a new bar backsplash, and a dusting off of the delicious menu, our place opened back up in February. It was a dream.
My husband and I were there for opening weekend. It was glorious in all its beauty. It was our first time seeing Drew, since last October. He was filled with emotion and wonderment of the future. This reopening is what he wanted.
We had a few dishes from our favorites and of course a couple of new ones. Our hearts were hungry and appreciative for quenching the cravings. Food is an art-form in its own genre. Each dish is its own canvas playing with the senses visually, olfactorily, and gustatorily. It is about exploration and even better the nostalgia of tasting something from our past. The Bull and Beggar did all of that and even more in our evening. It was a gallery of deliciousness. I can't wait to return for my birthday, and again, and again...

And P.S. Drew has 3 other restaurants that are open for business: The Admiral, Baby Bull, and Leo's House of Thirst. All are fabulous in their own way and deserve a visit.
