JP Terlizzi is an award-winning New York City photographer whose contemporary practice explores themes of memory, relationship, and identity. His images are rooted in the personal and heavily influenced around the notion of home, legacy, and family. He is curious how the past relates and intersects with the present and how the present enlivens the past, shaping one’s identity.
"Love has always been synonymous with food in my family. Whenever you visited, one of the first questions from any relative was, "Did you eat?" The table, for us, is more than just a piece of furniture; it's a place where we come together with loved ones, share stories, create memories, and enjoy each other’s company. It's where we make connections. The act of thoughtfully preparing and presenting food or an arranged table becomes a profound expression of love and care. Coming from a large extended Italian family, I cherished the fond memories of holiday gatherings around the table, surrounded by aunts and uncles, immersed in their stories of our family. This series originated as my response to loss and explores the heirlooms we pass down as a legacy to the next generation. It's a tribute to the relatives who have passed on and the shared beauty we experienced as a family." - JP Terlizzi
