The Cosmic Dimensions of the Very Talented Granville Carroll

Granville Carrol is a fascinating artist with a big voice in expressing his creativity.  He is also one of  the kindest persons I have learned from in a while.  His images are astounding and deeply rooted in his identity and I had to celebrate him this month.  I have preordered his book and can't wait for it's arrival!  He is an artist, teacher, and book maker, and I am grateful to call him friend too!

Granville Carroll, a contemporary visual artist and Afrofuturist residing in Phoenix, Arizona, delves into the realms of photography and poetry to explore the intricate facets of representation and identity.  Through his creative pursuits, Carroll seeks to unravel the multifaceted dimensions of blackness, encompassing spatial blackness, temporal blackness, and spiritual blackness.  At the heart of his artistic journey lies an exploration of metaphysics, particularly examining the ontology of self and the cosmos.  Carroll's practice shines a spotlight on the boundless imaginative capacities of the human mind, masterfully weaving narratives and constructing alternate speculative futures and states of existence.

Granville Carroll published his first book, Dark Matter through Visual Studies Workshop back in December 2022.  His first edition of the book sold out just months after its initial release.  Luckily, Visual Studies Workshop is taking preorders for the 2nd print run. You can preorder a copy here: https://bookstore.vsw.org/product/dark-matter. Carroll is also exhibiting work at Center for Photographic Art (CPA) in Carmel, CA as part of their grant exhibition.  He will be showcasing a new image from his recent (in-progress) series, We Are Made of Many Sons. In 2023 Carroll received a project support grant from CPA.  The exhibition is set to run from March 9th-April 14th, 2024. Additionally, Carroll is set to exhibit work from his projects Black Serenity and Because the Sun Hath Looked Upon Me at Schick Art Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY in late March for the Alchemy of Light exhibition.
